Just cos I wanted to…..

Hello everyone – I’m here today with a project that makes use of my absolute favourite thing about Make It Crafty…….the background images. Whatever image you are using, you can always make it look even better by adding a little background, not to mention how much more fun it is to colour!

Here I’ve used a digi stamp that has a little background already (the bedside cupboard on the left side of the bed) and is an adorable little image. But look how much more of a scene it becomes when I merge it with some background stamps:  the window, table and flowers are one image, the tree that you can see through the window is another, and the third background stamp is the picture frame on the wall – the picture inside it is a watercolour scene I did some years ago, and I quite like the thought that they are the trees outside this little fella’s window, just painted from a different direction.

I started off colouring this with one of Zoe’s challenges in mind….to shade in greys and cover with a single flat layer of colour. So all the areas that are in shade – the right side of the room, the front of the blanket and the little mouse’s feet – were undershaded in neutral greys N2, N4 and N6, and then I went over with flat colour. But this didn’t give me the atmosphere I wanted in the colouring, so I admit that I then brought in other shades of colour (sorry Zoe!). But I did then throw in another challenge – to colour fur – by adding in short thin strokes of pencils on the mouse’s head and hands.

To the sky, I added some dots of silver ink as stars:

And this is the card that I made using the colouring – you can find more details about it on my blog HERE:
